Rest in Peace Steve Jobs
05 October 2011
Death is very likely the single best invention of life. It’s life’s change agent; it clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now, the new is you. But someday, not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it’s quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Customer Requests
27 September 2011
These are exiting time to be in the Internet Business. If your work involves web development / web design, there is an abundance of work to go around.
Float Gravity is currently a one person company.Which means,I handle customer interaction, prepare functionality documents, payment followup and what ever is required to keep the businesses up and running. It’s fun on most days and I enjoy what I do.
Often when working on various projects, you hear of customer request which involves a lot of work to get the feature / web application built. To explain it from a development point of view to a customer looking to have something similar is often difficult. The customer has seen that someone already build it, so why can’t you?
“We should have a good photo sharing ability cause ‘Facebook’ has it”, “We should be able to add circles cause Google+” has it and other requests are far too often. Although these features are good to have in the product, they take time to build. For a team of 20-30 developers / designer, I am assuming 2-3 weeks, for a team of 1 about 1-2 months.
Having a big team, means that you can consider these requests and give a good time estimate on by when it can be done, having a team of 1 means that the time span provided are not usually accepted. Most of us want things developed faster. Having a 1-2 months of time frame seems too far ahead in the future.
These are the kind of projects you have to let go.For a one person team, attending to a customer features / project to build a Email Newsletter System like MailChimp or a web application just like ‘Facebook’ is too much of work.Knowing what works for a one person shop, and get better a developing these features has made a lot of difference for me.
